PUBLISHERS' NOTES
_________________________________________________________________

Hi and welcome to another edition of My IBiz Weekly.

Wow, it's been a long week. I had some out of town relatives this
week, which was a lot of fun but it set me back with my work, but
I'll survive. Isn't that the reason we want to work at home, so
we can be flexible in our work lives?

Today's issue is all about learning to build your list and
survive as a publisher. I have written a part two of my article
"Trials and Tribulations of a Newbie Publisher" Since the
original article was written six months ago, it should be
interesting to see what changes I have learned since that time.

Plus I have some more tips from one of our readers on necessary
weekly tasks and tips to build your list.

Part two are some of the great ads that I receive through various
coops, plus some great subscriber ads.

Now last week I told you I had a BIG announcement for you. Like I
said last week, it is not about some new affiliate program or
anything like that. I am not going to need some downline help..

EZINE AD HELPER is adding on a new section to it's advertising
coop. Starting August 2,2002, we will begin to offer TOP SPONSOR
ADS TO GROUPS OF EZINES ALL FOR ONE LOW COST.

Everyone knows that next to solo ads, Top sponsor ads offer
maximum exposure for your ad. This is currently in a pre launch
stage, and details will be added to my site this week.

I am looking for PUBLISHERS to join the TOP SPONSOR COOP. This is
separate from the original ad coop that I have now. You can
always join one, or the other, or perhaps both.

This is a great way to fill up any unused top sponsor space and
to gain valuable subscribers and ezine publishing tips.

Please send me an email to
mailto:donesia@ezineadhelper.com?subject=JoinTopSponsor

and by next week, you will be sent an email with all the details.

Remember this will be ready to go on August 2nd with of course a
great grand opening discount and of course a subscriber's
discount as well.

Well that's about it for today. Please take the time to look over
the products mentioned in the Publisher's Recommendation section
and don't wait, join the Top Sponsor coop today. You will be
sorry. I have a lot of surprises and great offers for all the
publishers in my coop.

Please have a safe and happy weekend and I will see you on
Sunday!!

PAYING MY DUES:
Trials And Tribulations Of A Newbie Publisher Part Two
By Donesia Muhammad Copyright (c) 2002 KDM Publishing
_________________________________________________________________

Note:
If you have not read the original article "Trials and
Tribulations of a Newbie Publisher" first published on January
11, 2002 you can read it here
http://ezineadhelper.com/donesia/trials.htm

In the beginning, things were difficult for me. Learning the
techniques to be a good publisher.

I have learned through other publishers, ebooks, email courses,
and websites. I learned all about content, formatting, and
promotion. I then came to the realization that I can't mirror
another publisher, another newsletter, or another concept.

I had to be myself, and take the good with the bad.

It wasn't about being a guru.

It wasn't about getting as many people as possible to sign up
under you for the "Next Big Thing"

To me, it was about helping people. I tried just about every
"method " out there, but when it all boiled down to it, I just
wanted to help people.

In the six months since I've written the first "Trials and
Tribulations" some of the same gripes are still there, those were
just the inevitable everyday problems.

I got a lot of reality checks in those past six months:

>> It's not always a bad thing if you have available ad space.
That can be a good thing. I'll just run my own ads instead. Some
publishers prefer it that way.

>> It's okay to use reprinted articles. Sometimes when you are
trying to write an article and you just can't get the words
together, stop pressuring yourself and just find an article
already waiting for you.

Reprinted articles are a good backup but Original Content still
rules the roast.

>> Trying to find a good quality list host or list software is
about as hard to find as a good quality web host.

But once you find one, stick with it. Cheaper prices may mean
cheaper quality. It all depends on what your newsletter needs,
not what everyone is trying to sell you.

>> You truly have to learn and understand how email is delivered
so you can then understand Spam, and understand why email
bounces. Learn to read the headers in email so you can see not
only who is really sending you mail but you can also be able to
recognize what system is used to send out the mail, and what you
can do about it. You can't just learn all the glamorous things
about ezine publishing.

Understand all about spam filters and how it affects the delivery
of your newsletter. How one simple word in the subject line of
your email can stop your entire message from getting through.

>> Getting frustrated is natural, but you should not give up. You
are not going to get rich from this your first year, maybe not
your second year either. Everything always goes back into the
business anyway.

>> Stop acting as if your name and business doesn't matter. Don't
promote everything you see. What works for you may not work for
me. Read the fine print. Forced matrixes, downlines, 2 tier,

Whatever..

I have come to love this world of publishing. It enables me to
enjoy my love of writing and business skills.

Of course I still make my mistakes from time to time. I am still
learning every day, still adjusting to the sting of a rude
unsubscribe request, and as always people are still sending me
unsubscribe requests with of course, the address that is not on
your list.

As hype gets more professional, more slick, I have to think fast
on the new schemes out there and the ones to come down the line.

I now realize why a lot of the big newsletters have more than one
editor, because it is not easy to handle a weekly ezine by
yourself sometimes. And trying to maintain your website and
basic web promotion is a lot of work, but...

Just getting that one email from one of your readers saying
"Thank you for helping me" makes it worthwhile. This lets you
know that your ezine isn't hitting the trash folder as soon as
they receive it.

You see I can finally stop calling myself a Newbie Publisher..

I am a Newbie No More....

Just call me the Gradual Publisher because aren't we all?

EZINE TIPS AND WEEKLY TASKS
_________________________________________________________________

Here are some great tips for your subscriber list and website in
general. Thanks to Mary Anne Hahn from Write Success ezine for
sending me these great tips.

Here are some of Mary Anne's WEEKLY TASKS

Yes, there are a few things I do weekly for my business:

1. I run a clean sweep (I use Norton) and the disk defragmenter
that comes with my PC weekly to open up disk space, remove unused
files and uninstall programs I no longer use.

2. I contact at least one other ezine publisher to swap
ads--usually more.

3. I purchase classified ad space in a couple of 'zines each week
to promote my favorite products.

4. I respond to questions like these in ezines! :-)

Here are some of Mary Anne's tips to building your EZINE
SUBSCRIBER LIST

Here Are Some Ways I Use To Build My Ezine List:

1. Ad swaps--I subscribe to the Ezine Ad Swaps
(mailto:Ezine-Ad-Swaps-subscribe@topica.com ) and trade ads with
ezines whose readers might also be interested in mine.

2. Articles--I write articles on topics related to my ezine and
include a subscription email address in my resource box at the
end of the article.

3. Just recently, I offered my current subscribers a way to earn
a little money if they brought in new subscribers--I pay them 20
cents for each new subscriber they bring in. You can set up a
program like this free at http://www.listpartners.com  . This one
has taken off right away, and I expect it will bring in very
targeted subscribers.

4. I am a *big fan* of EzineAnnouncer, a software I use to
submit my zine to directories and announcement lists. I also use
it to submit articles and ad swaps. Save *tons* of time!
http://tinyurl.com/cbx

5. And of course, I use my sig file! :-)

Time To Laugh...
_________________________________________________________________

A guy named Pete gets a job as a switchman with the railroad,
and undergoes weeks of training.

The supervisor then takes him into the switch booth to test his
readiness. The following exchange takes place:

Supervisor: "Imagine you were sitting here alone and you learned
there was a train coming from the North on that track, and
another coming from the South on the same track. What would you
do?"

Pete: "I'd throw this switch right here and put one train on the
other track."

Supervisor: And what if that switch didn't work?"

Pete: "I'd go down to the track and throw that big switch lever
there, putting one train on the other track."

Supervisor: "And what if that switch lever didn't work?"

Pete: "Then I'd come back here and call the dispatcher to stop
both trains."

Supervisor: "And what if the phone didn't work?"

Pete: "Then I'd go to that gas station across the street and use
their phone."

Supervisor: "And what if their phone didn't work?"

Pete: "Then I'd go get Uncle Joe."

Supervisor: "Uncle Joe??? What would he do?"

Pete: "Nothing, but he ain't never seen a train wreck."
