EDITORS' NOTES
Hi welcome to another edition of MIBW. Welcome to
the 301 New Subscribers since last weeks' issue. Well can you
believe it, March is already here. As usual the year is flying
by. I know this can be a hectic time of the year. Tax time is
taking up everyone's' last bit of strength, and many of you are
getting your sites' together and getting your ezines together.
With all this work that everyone has been doing, we tend to
forget sometimes to thank those who have helped well basically
kept us sane in these crazy weeks. Just like that old phrase "
Never forget where you came from" Never forget who has helped
you.
You know exactly how hard you have worked to start your online
ventures, and you felt as if you were married to the computer
trying to figure everything out. My article today deals with that
subject " I Couldn't Have Done This By Myself".
I know I couldn't have done any of this without my husband. Many
of the writers reading this understand that the best way to
express yourself is with words. We are a fickle group.
I have also started our series on search engines. We will look
into search engine placements, keywords, software, meta tags, pay
per click engines, etc. Today we will start with the basics.
First instead of assuming that you have to go broke submitting

QUICK THOUGHTS
Everything takes time.
Nothing happens overnight.
It gets frustrating when you are waiting to succeed. You want the
money now and not later. You want instant results. But it doesn't
happen like that. We are by nature very impatient and anxious
people.
I know when bills are due, they don't want to hear excuses. I
know you are tired of eating Oodles of Noodles ( oh don't act as
if you don't know what I'm talking about), tired of making
payment arrangements, You all know the rent man doesn't take 'I
owe you's' , and your kids don't eat promises.
Don't get frustrated when thing don't go the way you wanted to.
The person who has learned PATIENCE is a very wise and happy
person indeed.
Why am I saying this? Maybe if we had more patience, we won't get
mad if someone doesn't respond to our email within 10 minutes, if
you don't get that instant tech support from your web host, if
you didn't make the sale. Don't take it out on them because your
real world situations are stressing you out.
Relax and good things will happen.
Then you can throw the rest of the Oodles out and buy some
steak!!

I COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS BY MYSELF

The decision to start my own business was a hard one. I went
through a lot of doubts, a lot of fears. Required a lot of long
hours, and hard work.
There were times I wondered what am I doing? What if I fall flat
on my face? How long is it going to take to start a profit?
You took a temporary back seat to the business start up. You
listened patiently as I explained my goals and my dreams and you
saw my eyes dance with ideas that you did not let die. You saw
the determination and you listened.
You listened to all my newbie thoughts and didn't judge or
criticize. You gave me your experiences in the business world and
applied it to my business.
I went through all the newbie stages and you let me learn these
things for myself.
"Hey I found a place where I can host my site for free."
"Guess what if I put up this banner, I will 5 cents per click
through. That's no problem at all."
"$1,000 in 24 hours and they will build my downline. Can't beat
that!"
Then when I finally knew the ropes you really helped.
You rejoiced when I got my first subscriber, when I hit 1,000,
and then 2,000 subscribers.
You rejoiced when I got my first sale.
You gave me praise when I designed my site.
When you saw that business license, you knew that I was taking
care of my goals.
When a computer enters a marriage it sometimes can either make
you or break you. It takes up so much of your time, you feel as
though you will never come up for air.
You have to learn how to organize your life and your marriage. As
I have said before, if your marriage was in trouble before,
starting a business will add more stress to it. You have to fix
what is broken first and then you can keep up with your goals.
Now I'm not saying that you cannot accomplish your goals by
yourself. You can do anything you can set your mind to. But I am
grateful for who is beside me and helping me all the way.

It really honestly takes long hard work to achieve your goals.
You have to sacrifice some things in order to get where you want
to go. But you have to remember to not forget those who have
helped you and who have waited patiently by your side.
Whether it is your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend,
children, parents, friends, etc. It all remains the same. Don't
forget who helped you.
I remember how you calmly reminded me not to fall for every scam
out there, and not to buy everything that looks too good to be
true. You reminded me to not try to keep up with the Internet
Jones'.
You see, we have always been a team. I have always helped you and
now you are helping me.
When I thought that nothing is working right and my server is
down, and the person who unsubscribed called me every name in the
book, you also sympathized with me.
Thanks for understanding when dinner was burned.
Thanks for understanding in those pre-organized days.
Thanks for rubbing my hands when they were getting numb from too
much time spent with the PC.
You had all the patience that I didn't. You kept me from throwing
the computer through the window when it would crash yet again.
You didn't know the difference between a cgi script and a pay per
click but you listened.
You knew when to gently tell me "Baby, you need a break. Everyone
needs a break sometimes"
Even to this day, whenever there is a computer problem at work,
the first words out of your mouth are always, "Ask my wife, she's

One of the most common questions I get from readers of my
Ezine and visitors to my websites alike is, "How do you get
all your sites to rank so high in all the search engines?"
The Answer? I NEVER submit my site to them!

Learning the hard way
===========================
Before I explain, let me tell you a little about how I was
"forced" to find this little "secret" of great search engine
positioning.
A couple of years ago, Yahoo!, the 300lb gorilla of search,
used a service called Inktomi for it's "backup" listings.
Due to an excellent ranking I had obtained in Inktomi
(which, at the time, was not hard to do), I was receiving
over 90% of my daily traffic from Yahoo!
Suddenly, and without warning, Yahoo switched to using
Google for it's backup results. My site traffic dropped 90%-
OVERNIGHT! I went from making a nice daily profit to
practically nothing in the span of 24 hours! It was then I
resolved to find another, more reliable way to generate
consistent daily traffic, WITHOUT relying on the search
engines.

How Link Popularity Works
===========================
As search engine programmers make the software they use
smarter and smarter, they have started relying much more
heavily on something called "Link Popularity" to rank sites
in their search results.
Link popularity is essentially the number of sites with a
link back to yours.
But it doesn't stop there....
Now, search engines are getting so smart, they not only rank
your site based on link popularity, but also the "value" of
each of those links.
For example, a link from the venerable Yahoo! would be
weighted much higher than one from a one-page site hosted on
a free server.
So...I figured to achieve a decent rank in all search
engines, I needed to get A LOT of links from sites related to
mine. I set out on a mission to obtain 100 reciprocal links
within 90 days. To make a long story short, I went "above
and beyond" and got over 400 links in that span of time.
Did I get decent rankings? Yep. But, I discovered something
even more valuable then the top 10 listings I was now
starting to get. The sites I had linked to were sending me
traffic-in droves! More than 50% of my web traffic was now
coming from OTHER websites!
Now, no matter how my listing change in all the major
engines (which happens almost daily), my traffic stays on a
relatively even keel, month in, month out. What's more, once
you have several dozen good quality sites linking to yours,
you never have to submit to the search engines again,
because they find you every time they "crawl" the web looking
for sites. In fact, I've found that you will actually rank
HIGHER by NOT submitting your site, and letting the search
engine spiders find it on their own!
So...if you want really good search engine rankings, stop
submitting to them, and start getting some good link
partners!
