Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of My IBiz Weekly.
This week I have another exclusive interview for you from Nucha
Aquino from http://eLaguna.net
This interview shows you that
webmasters come from all over the world and therefore have many
unique advantages that you can see just by the work they produce.
Just when you think that things only happen to you, you are not
alone in this world.
Sometimes you think you will never understand this whole internet
world. You do what you see other marketers doing, but then that
may not work for you. So you decide to come up with your own
niche, and it works for you, but sometimes you think you're not
doing everything that needs to be done to succeed.
When people ask, have you submitted your site to search engines,
ezine directories, have a sig file, have an ezine, send out
testimonials, develop your own product, started an affiliate
program, write articles, purchased key words, promoted your
website everywhere known to man, etc. etc. Pretty soon I wonder
will I start to see Url's on my children's book bag at school.
Trying to maintain it all will make your head spin, and I admit
I haven't done everything that I have just named but I am not
going to stress myself about it. Everything is in stride. You may
think that everyone is going way past you and when are you going
to get a break. It will happen, just relax and it will happen.
Just have faith.
I know faith is a simple word to learn, but a hard concept to
understand but no matter what your circumstances are, good faith
leads to success.
Next week, I want to talk about this subject of selling ads in
your ezine, free ads, ad swaps, etc. I have my gripes and I'm
sure you do too. We'll discuss it all next week. Enjoy your

CHANGES TO EZINE AD HELPER AND MY IBIZ HELPER.COM
If you have noticed I have changed the mailing addresses to only
deal with ezineadhelper. I am discontinuing My IBiz Helper and
moving over the best content to Ezine Ad Helper. Ezine Ad Helper
has a better success rate in surviving than My IBiz Helper so
that is why I am merging the sites. As you can see
http://ezineadhelper.com I have already redesigned the site and
am making some important script changes to the site.
So the domain My IBiz Helper will point to Ezine Ad Helper. I
still plan on keeping the email for My IBiz Helper even though a
virus has filtered through my domain and some are getting viruses
and thinking it is coming from me.
It's not me.. I am getting the same crap and viruses that
everyone else has been getting this week. This Klez virus is
ruthless and I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected by
this. I get weird emails with no attachments with a few sentences
in the body of the email and then you wonder if it is a virus or
not. Please everyone, get that virus software, and keep it up to
date.
Oh and the new pop up that I added to the front page is Opt-in

which is a great little script for capturing visitor's email
address for your ezine.
This is not a mailing list script so don't expect it to mail out
your ezine, I have aweber for that. This just capture their
opt-in subscribers.
I am also in the process of adding Master Subscriber Pro to my
ezine directory so visitors can automatically subscribe to the
various ezines right from my site.
Pretty soon I will give you a run down of all the scripts,
software, etc, that I use to run my site. Just call me the
Gradual Webmaster..

Not really. I am a college professor and put eLaguna.net up for
my students to understand eCommerce. Then I put Small-World
so people everywhere acquire awareness of others (existence and
differences, cultures and facts, etc.).
WEB DESIGN SOFTWARE
Using FrontPage2000
I'd say I WAS a computer savvy in the DOS time, but know nothing
on web site building. I started using FrontPage and learned a lot
from it. I mean I work with a WYSIWYG page and turn it to an html
page to see how it's like and that's how I learn html.
The other good thing of FrontPage is if you rename a file
or relocate it, the links' are updated automatically. Love it.
And when uploading, it checks/updates everything for us.
We 'll never forget to upload a new/updated file.
One bad thing is it's not compatible with lots of hosts.
Though the host provides FP extension, sometimes it just
does not work. Or causes the files to get corrupted (whatever
it means).
But with a good host, it works fine.

I am using add2it mailman Pro

) for eLaguna
but use Group-mail free version to manage the subscribers
(search, etc.). Group-mail is the best mailer software
I've found. Even the free version is already great
( http://eLaguna.net/groupmail.htm
) .
On the other hand I use Group-mail to send out Small-World
because you can put pictures/attachment in the email, but use
add2it to keep the list and manage the sub-unsub so that the
requests are acknowledged and confirmed to the subscribers
right away even when I am not available. Am I confusing you yet?
ANY OTHER TIME SAVING SCRIPTS OR SOFTWARE THAT HELPS YOU HANDLE
YOUR DAILY DUTIES QUICKER.
Yep... I am a lazy person and always try to look for a
easier/quicker way to work.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS ONLINE?
I started with one of those "work at home" programs
just when my baby was 1 month old and I decided to
stay home with her. (Actually I could not find a full-time
job because I am a foreigner -- I am Thai, live in the
Philippines with Filipino hubby). Even with my two Masters,
two Bachelors, and lots more certificates. It's quite a closed
society here.
WHAT PROBLEMS DID YOU FACE EARLY ON?
The problem was hmmm...
First of all, the program I started with lied. It offered free
course, but only if I signed up. It offered 10-15 free web
sites, but I do not have rights to modify the site... Now how
could I say the sites are mine?
It promised $$$$$ within months, but only if I invested
$$$$$$$$. And so on....
And promised to pay if I refer somebody. The only way I
could recruit is to use the same lie!
I knew Internet business can be ethical and profitable
but I did not know at the time "how". I spent my first 3 months
searching and learning. Also hard to find out who I could trust.
HOW DID YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR GROWTH?
I was not prepared. I am also amazed with the rate of our growth.
Now it's rather out of hand and I'll need to automate the
systems.

HOW HAS WORKING ON THE INTERNET AFFECTED YOUR FAMILY LIFE OR
OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT?
Oh I had to invest some money at the beginning. So we had to
spare parts of our savings for it. And I seem to be busy all the
time. My husband is now doing our cooking. He can cook
Thai food already.
On the work. I am already a part-time professor in a local
graduate school. Sometimes my class and ezine readers share
the topics :-))
The fact is, once you got your teaching materials done, you'll
be able to use it forever, just add some current situation. SO
it's pretty ok with me. Since my students and readers share
interest in business and International aspects, I don't have
problems preparing for the classes.
ARE THERE ANY SCAMS OR SCHEMES THAT YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED THAT
YOU FEEL PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID?
It's hard to tell what's really a scam, and what's not.
I myself will be away from "Home email processor",
"forced matrix", or any program that promise lots
of money only I have to pay first. One more is the
kind that I do not understand the logic (of how it works).
I consult sites like icop, scambuster, or worldwidescam.com
when my subscriber write to ask about a program.
ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE WORK THAT YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR?
Sure am. I'll say I am pretty good for a newbie.
My web sites are never done, and I am always on a rush
with everything, but my ezines are on schedule. My mistake
was I started too many things at the same time. I am a
Gemini... though.
HONESTLY, HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU TO SEE A PROFIT?
I see income after 3 months. After the fifth month, the
business paid for itself and after the seventh month
it pays for baby food and groceries. I am thinking of
investing in some software to help automate the work.
8--What affiliate programs have been most effective for you?
I sold quite some copies of ezine announcers

itself.
But speaking of good programs, ...
I love Dr Ken Evoy's Sitesell program because he takes care
of us well. The affiliate FREE manual could be like a bible
book on marketing already. It's free at

Since I do not live in the U.S., cashing affiliate checks is
quite difficult and expensive. The most favorite network of mine
is Commission Junction because they pay in Philippine peso

WHAT FORMS OF PROMOTION ONLINE OR OFFLINE HAVE HELPED TO
PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS?
Ezine Advertising is best. I wasted my time with FFAs and
safe-lists in the early time... not anymore. To help people
search for the best program they can advertise with,

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO THE NEWBIES OUT THERE TO HELP
THEM SUCCEED?
Do not believe gurus. Not everybody is up to the same thing.
Find your group of target market and design everything you offer
to fit their tastes/preferences. Your web site is going to be
very boring if it come on white background with black text plus
blue for headlines and red for action words like others.
WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE NOW WHAT WOULD YOU DO
DIFFERENTLY?
I'd do one thing at a time and not sign up with every program
I came across. Now you can say I am lucky that my computer
crashed last 2 weeks. I lost my links to lots of programs
and will only keep those who show they care about me
(who email with updates in programs, etc.)
WHAT STEPS HAVE YOU TAKEN TO INCREASE YOUR SUBSCRIBER
LIST?
I listed my ezines with as many directories as I can get to. Use
ezine Announcer helps a lot ( http://wetrack.it/eza/af.cgi?88
).
For eLaguna it's easy because the target group is Internet
marketers and advertisers. So I give my subscribers free ad in a
weekly basis.
I also join ad co-ops (See http://eLaguna.net/advertising.htm
for
list of co-ops) to exchange advertising spaces with subscribers.
But for Small-World, I still don't know what to do because the
target group is different. I 've just signed up for a
pay-per-subscriber program at

Let's see if it helps.
Anyway, To get subscribers is not so difficult as to keep them. I
work hard with both ezines to keep the quality. Now I know it's a
kind of a job to run 2 ezines, but it's too late. I fell in love
with them both.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRO'S AND CON'S OF BEING AN EZINE
PUBLISHER?
Hmm... You mean what I get from being a publisher? I got friends
(fellow publishers and readers) on-line. Well if I did not do
this, I'll be still a lonely house-wife/part-time professor. I
also learned a lot from advertisers, subscribers, and article
writers.
I also found my niche.... cultural issues. From my International
experiences, I offer International marketing tips in eLaguna's,
and offer cultural awareness as well as travel tips in
Small-World.
The not-so-good part of being a publisher... Err... I don't
know... Probably it feels hurt when somebody writes with bad
attitudes, or call you !?#$ spammer. But hey... It's also here
that I learned how great it feels to forgive. If I don't take
these people personally and think they'd just mistaken me as
somebody else, I can survive the day fine.
My other 'con' is probably my bad English. I mean my TOEFL is
600+ but it's still not my first language. So I can be
informative, but when I need to be descriptive (for example in
Small-World's travel issues), I cannot translate my thoughts to a
nice written language.

TIME TO LAUGH...

Two college basketball players were taking an important final
exam. If they failed, they would be on academic probation and not
allowed to play in the big game the following week. The exam was
fill-in-the-blank.
The last question read, "Old MacDonald had a ."
Pat Duh was stumped. He had no idea what to answer. But he knew
he needed to get this one right to be sure he passed. Making sure
the professor wasn't watching, he tapped Tiny on the shoulder.
"Pssst. Tiny. What's the answer to the last question?"
Tiny quietly laughed. He looked around to make sure the professor
hadn't noticed, then he turned to Pat Duh. "Pat, you're so
stupid. Everyone knows Old MacDonald had a FARM."
"Oh yeah," said Pat. "I remember now." He picked up his
No. 2 pencil and started to write the answer in the blank. He
stopped.
Tapping Tiny's shoulder again, he whispered," Tiny, how do you
spell farm?"
"You are really dumb, Pat. That's so easy. Farm is spelled
E-I-E-I-O."
