Hello Everyone and welcome to the Monday Edition of MIBW. 

I hope everyone has had a good weekend. I enjoyed myself not because I caught up on work but because I was able to spend some time with my daughters. It's easy to forget the bigger picture sometimes. You can end up stressing yourself out even worse than when you had a 9-5 job, so be careful.

Working at home requires a lot of discipline, and motivation. This is the time to learn to be a leader. Over the next few weeks, I am implementing a lot of changes in my site and of course that will take up a lot of time but I am not going to stress myself out over it. Because when that happens, nothing gets done, no matter how hard you try.

Today's article is about learning how to work with your family members in Your business. Plus I have added some excellent links that every entrepreneur needs to have on hand.

I also have some great feedback from last week's Voice Your Opinion column.

Thanks Naomi, now that is one of my pet peeves as well. Sometimes we are in such a rush to get an issue out we forget to proofread. And I am so guilty of that sometimes, so it's good to know that people still check the "little things"

I think every ezine should have a unique identity!

As far as possible every editor should try to be
different in so much as to concentrate in his/her
individual style on a particular area of interest in
which that editor has more than normal expertise.

Otherwise the ezine is just a marketing vehicle for
the editor itself, often times even less than that -
e.g. where it is just a compilation of rehashed
content with the sole aim of selling ad space.

In case of networking marketing ezines they should
balance the very real need of income generation
with genuine income creation too.

They should INFORM and MAKE AWARE:
They should instill real networking skills and concern
within this community so that the shams/scams are
kept under control.

Speak the truth Jerome, Speak the truth. Many times we tend to forget about content and just focus on getting money for ads, and forget about everything else. Sometimes it looks like one of those ten pages long "sales letter" that is all on one page, and you have to scroll forever just to find the price. Instead of keeping all the "secrets" to yourself, show us how not to get scammed. That way we can weed out the bad and it would become clearer when we try to figure out what to sell online.

What I look for in an eZine is the content...

I'm interested to receive up-to-date, how-to 
training articles on my business (eZine marketing
and affiliate programs) and resources that can help
me promote it (eBooks, Reports, eCourses, Tools etc.)

What I like most about an eZine is when the editor
gives quick details on what's in that particular issue.
If the content is 100% exclusive and is dedicated
to my business then I'll definitely read it from the start
to the bottom.

I don't like when the editor lists all the details
about privacy, disclaimer, subscribe/unsubscribe etc...
right before the 'table of contents'.

Also, I *hate* to see more than 7-10 ads successively,

When I receive Solo Ads I just keep deleting them
if the subject line or the headline in the body of message
don't catches my attention.

Thanks Codrut. Unfortunately with the abundance of spam filters around, a lot of publishers are just using generic subject lines to avoid being automatically deleted. 

A quick summary is always helpful. I too don't like to scroll all the way down just to find out what content is there.  A cluttered Header is always confusing for people. Space some things out. More white space, less clutter!

My personal favourite (South African spelling) is the editor's notes. Some ezines have a heading of "editor's notes", but the notes are always the same. I look for the personal touch in the editor's notes, and love reading about the publisher's highs and lows, failures and successes. In this way, I get to know my publisher.

Next in line is the content. I am subscribed to a lot of ezines, so obviously I am going to see the same articles in some of them. Original content always grabs my eye.

Recommendations of ebooks and software always come in handy.

The age old saying still reins supreme. Content is King. As much as I try to come out with an original article every week, it gets hard sometimes, but me personally I don't mind seeing reprinted articles, but I appreciate useful articles, that actually make you think instead of something with a bunch of affiliate links and no help.

All In The Family

Don't forget to tell Uncle Joe that the orders have to be delivered today.

Many people can tell you that their co-workers leave little to the imagination. Even though you are supposed to be a team, you can't wait to clock out and leave that co-worker's attitude behind.

So what do you do when that co-worker has your last name??


Mr. and Mrs. Business


If your business partner is also your spouse, it may be hard not to bring business disagreements to your home environment and vice versa.

Many times, men and women have different views on how to manage their business. While you think you have the best idea, your spouse may also have an idea, and that is where the conflict may arise.

There is an art to arguing. Ask anyone who has been married over 5 years will tell you. 

Basically a marriage consists of many of the same things as a business.

But you may also have to work with other family members as well. Your parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc..

That has its ups and downs as well.


Taking Up The Family Slack


Once things are up and running with your business, you may eventually need to hire employees. The first people you may think of would be family members, especially since you already know them and know their work ethics. 

But now that you have your own business, other family members may look at you as the answer to everyone's job problem. 

"Well you know Susie needs a job right now. It doesn't have to be something big, just something to keep her comfortable for the rest of her life.."

Then you have to worry about the family that is going to take advantage of your generosity , have little talent for your type of business, and unwilling to look at you as an authority figure.


Prospering With Your Family Business


Just as any business you need to have a business plan in order to succeed. But especially when you are working with family members, you need to have a special tolerance and patience with them.

Let's face it, no ones you better than most of your family. They know your strengths and weaknesses. 

Now that can be a good thing or a bad thing.

Family members may give you the opportunity that you may not have gotten with your current outside employment. They know what you have always wanted to do and they help you achieve those goals. They are eager to help you learn everything possible, knowing at your current job, you would have to wait years to have your superiors teach you those methods.


Now On The Other Hand, 


Your family knows every mistake you have made, and they may have a hard time accepting the fact that any bad habits you may have had in the past is gone.

They may treat you as a child, especially if you are dealing with relatives older than you.




The best advice I can give you is to first work with some of your family at other jobs and see how that goes.

I have worked with my husband before. In fact that is how we met, but that's another story...

Be honest, we all have a bit of dysfunction in our family. The Brady Bunch was just a television show.

You know deep down whether it is a good idea to run a business with family or not. As long as everyone can work independently yet work as a team, then you should be fine. You will have some adjustments to work out.

If you don't think so, just go ahead and run your business and see how your family responds to your business.

Never assume, always be cautious.

What it all boils downs to is someone screws up, it's your name and your tax records that will be under scrutiny.
