Quick
Thoughts From Your Publisher
Doesn't it seem as if I would never
finish up MyIBizWeekly.com? But
hey you try to archive a year and a half's worth of weekly newsletters
and you'll see what I mean.
I have added a Business Directory for you
to add your reciprocal links and gain some link popularity while you are
at it. http://www.myibizweekly.com/directory/
And do you know what is the best thing
about this new site..
I am not going to make a
dime from this site..
Now doesn't that sound funny, you
are always hearing marketers online talking about how much their Paypal
account are just ringing in the sales.
Well I know for a fact, with the
exception of any affiliate sales, and of course ad sales for the ezine,
there isn't anything set up to make any substantial income.
Not to say that it couldn't be done, but
I am not.
Let's see, I could've charged to add
links to the business directory, true, but come on how many other
directories out there that are free. SO why would someone pay for mine.
Especially a new site, so that means hardly any traffic the first couple
of months. So what would happen is I start charging but then get mad a
few weeks later when the sales aren't coming in.
Sometimes we dig our own graves. Trying
to squeeze some blood from that dead turnip isn't going to work.
Is your business something you like to do
or is it something that makes you money. Can you have your cake
and eat it too. Yes you can.
Ezine Ad Helper makes me money, and its a
site that I love. But My IBiz Weekly is my Labor
Of Love.
Meaning for all the work I put into it, I
may not get back money wise but I will in terms of:
Keeping all my hard work for the past
year and a half showcased. How many copies of ezines that you subscribe
to are kept on your hard drive? Now all new subscribers can look around
and see what type of newsletter they have subscribed to. You can also
see how far I am come in terms of writing, editing and not trying to
sell you every thing on the face of the planet..
Link Popularity.. Do you know how many
ads I have run over the past year and a half?? They all link
somewhere.:) I have gotten better on keywords and learning more everyday
so that helps. You can always check your link
popularity here
Hosting Fee..
It only cost me $5.00 extra on my hosting bill to host this site. I use Host
4 Profit and have used this service for the past year and a half. I
owned the template for quite some time now so with the exception of the
$5 extra dollars which I can certainly handle, I am fine. I purchased
the template through Outfront.net
Domain Name...I
have owned myibizweekly.com for almost as long as I have had the ezine.
I learned that lesson a long time ago about buying the domain for your
ezine so you are not worried about another site claiming a copyright
infringements or anything like that. Of course I am not safe 100% but it
helps.
I buy all my domains for only $8.95
through Go Daddy.com
Ad Sales...
Advertisers appreciate that you archive your ezines. They know that
their ads will always get viewed time and time again. While I do not
archive Solo ads, all ads, except for the ones that violate the FTC
guidelines are archived. This is a big problem these days. I still have
tons of ads to remove from the archives. Learning what we should have
already known is a job in itself.
Affiliate Programs.. One of my biggest
problems when I get approached for a joint venture is where to put the
info on my site. Ezine Ad Helper was offering too many things and
getting away from the point of the site, and the reason I purchased that
domain to begin with...Ezine Ad Helper...
It's an ad coop plus a place to house all
my articles. I created it so it would be easy for me to grow. I am in
the process of adding two new coops to Ezine Ad Helper along with some
other goodies and now I have the chance to do this.
Now of course, I could always just add my
articles to MIBW but I would not delete the pages on my site. Why?
Because then I would lose the search
engine rankings that are associated with those pages. So I will use
duplicates.
Yes, even though I have a custom 404
error page, I still want people to actually see the articles..
Lesson
Learned: This is something I found out after the fact. When
you are creating new pages for your website and replacing older pages,
keep the same url for the new page and any new folders. Because the
search engines have your old info and when someone visits, all they will
see is a 404 error. When I was a template crazed woman and would change
my site every few months, I would change url's like crazy and the result
is now when I look at my site statistics, I still see people trying to
reach my old site.
What I am going to do is make note of the url's that they are trying to
access and simply put in a redirect code to the new page.
If your web host doesn't offer the ability to redirect your visitors,
just look at Cgi-Resources to find the redirect script so you don't have
to lose out again.
http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Redirection/Error_Based/
A lot of times we all complain about the
lack of sales when maybe its what we are trying to sell is the
problem.
Of course we can't all come up with the
most unique product online but it's what you do to ENHANCE
your products and services that makes you unique.
Now honestly I could've finished MIBW
months ago but I kept debating to myself. Why should I put this site up?
What am I going to do with it. Is this going to create more work or make
things easier?
I was spending so much time with this new
site that everything else suffered.
So finally my mentor had to knock some
sense into me.
Focus on what is making money and forget
everything else.
You DO have a mentor, correct?
Doesn't have to be a guru, just someone who knows the ropes and who is
willing to give you honest advice whether you join their programs or
not? You know those kind of people. They don't ask for anything in
return, just give you solid help and they tell you what you NEED to
hear, not what you want to hear.
Yup, that's my mentor ....
Actually there are several people online
who help me and give me the best advice needed. This is essential
online, because by the time you find out the site you are dealing with
is a scam may be too late.
So what I did was to create a site that
is not going to load me down with a lot of work. Automate some tasks and
I can now focus on everything else.
I still have another site to put up plus
my ebook. Now I have the time for this.
Obviously you know that this is going to
be a good discussion for us for the next few weeks.
Fixing what you think isn't broken.
Realizing when change is necessary.
Admitting Defeat.
Not the easiest thing to do, but
necessary for growth.
Stay tuned for more.....

Make Them an Offer They Can't Refuse!
By Denise Hall (c) 2003
Every netrepreneur knows that the most important aspect of building a business is responsive leads. Whether you
publish an ezine or just send occasional sales letters via e-mail, if you don't get a good response, you won't have a
profitable business.
The old saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" applies here. You can send offers to
your prospects, but you can't make them buy.
So how do you turn those prospects into buyers? How do you get them to read, not just skim or delete, your ezine or
sales letter?
Make them offers they just can't refuse!
Offline businesses frequently have "Buy one, get one free" specials. Or "Buy one, get one 1/2 off." Or "Today only"
sales.
Online businesses need to use those same marketing principles. While the rules on the internet are a bit
different than offline marketing, many of the same concepts can be applied with the same results.
How many times have you seen an item on sale that was tempting, but you wanted to think about it before handing
over your money? By all means, think about it, especially if it's a large purchase. But if the special is only for
"today" or "this weekend", you'll have to decide a little faster, won't you?
Have you noticed that the checkout area at stores always has candy bars, magazines and other inexpensive items on
display? Those candy bars sure look good, don't they? The headline on that magazine makes you want to read the
article, doesn't it?
Those items are put there on purpose so you'll buy something else while you wait in line to pay for your other
purchases. It's called "impulse buying." Retailers have
used it for years.
Another offline marketing tactic is "loss leaders." Retailers advertise an item at or below cost to get
customers into their store. Once the customers are there, they'll normally buy more than just the advertised special.
So the retailer takes a loss on one product to sell other products that will bring profits. Pretty clever, huh?
These concepts can, and should, be used for online businesses. Offer your customers a freebie or second item
at half price with their purchase of any product at regular price. Or 25% off "Today Only" on one or more of your
products.
Customers like to shop for bargains, but on the internet your website, ezine or sales letter can get lost in the
vast array of reading material potential customers see everyday.
Make your offer stand out. Your customers will want that candy bar if it comes with a second one for half price.
They'll need your newest product if they get one of your other products for $10 off the regular price.
So dare to make them an offer they can't resist! Your customers will get a great deal and you'll have more sales.

Set Your Goal ... Take Aim ... Fire
By John Colanzi
How many times have you come up with a new idea that is going to make you a ton of money?
You've come with something new, that no one else is doing, and you know you'll have no competition.
You're excited, you can see the money flowing in. You're ready to act, but you hesitate.
Those nasty self doubts start creeping in:
** Who do I think I am?
** If this idea was any good, someone would already be doing it.
** What if I fail?
** What will people think?
You've gone from an excited entrepreneur, to a deer frozen in a car's headlights.
You've just killed your dream.
Don't think you're alone, it can happen to anyone.
There's a story about a master swordsman in Japan that shows that it can happen to anyone.
One day while he was practicing, a stranger came in and issued him a challenge.
The master agreed immediately.
As the master and the stranger were measuring each other for the kill, the master became baffled by the
stranger's odd style.
The doubts started creeping in. "What is this a new style I've never seen?"
As time went on the master kept noticing openings in the stranger's defense. The doubts kept building.
"It must be a trick, as soon as I attack an opening, he'll counter and send me to my death."
Finally after what seemed an eternity, the master attacked and easily destroyed his opponent.
That was the fateful day he started the "No Mind" school.
He realized you have to pull the trigger without thought, before the doubts creep in.
Give your dreams a chance. Set your goal ... Take aim
... Fire.
You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Wishing You Success,
John Colanzi

Weave Well...Writing Tips for the Web Article 16 of a
16-article series
By Virginia Rounding
In the last of my series of Weave Well articles, I'm going
to depart from the usual subject of the column and instead tell you about my new book, "Grandes Horizontales: the
lives and legends of four 19th-century courtesans", just published in the UK and due out in the US in July.
The four courtesans whose lives and legends are examined in my book “Grandes Horizontales” were all, in differing ways,
representative of the “demi-monde” in 19th-century Paris - that is, of that half-world midway between respectable high
society and the low life of the common prostitute. “Demi-monde” is a term suggestive of twilight, of a world
of shifting appearances and shadow, where nothing is quite what it seems, a world between worlds.
A “demi-mondaine” - that is, a woman who inhabited the “demi-monde” - could not necessarily be identified by her
appearance, and this could prove a difficulty for visitors to Paris. The “demi-monde” knew how to copy the “haut
monde” (the world of high society) and yet at the same time the “haut monde” was not above copying the half-world,
particularly where fashionable dress was concerned.
But though the two worlds might on the surface seem indistinguishable, there was nevertheless a chasm fixed
between them. There was a bridge over this chasm, but it led in one direction only: it was easy enough for a woman
from the “haut monde” to fall and find herself in the “demi-monde” but no return journey was possible, no way for
a “demi-mondaine” to climb her way into high society, no matter what riches she might amass or works of charity she
might undertake.
Of the four women I examine - Marie Duplessis, Cora Pearl, La Païva and La Présidente - Marie Duplessis was the first
to die, in 1847 at only twenty-three-years old. She thus missed out on the golden age of the French courtesan,
though can perhaps be seen as its most significant forerunner. That age was the era of the Second Empire, the
eighteen years from 1852 to 1870 when France was ruled by Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, the Emperor Napoleon III. The
ostentation and delight in show of that era, along with the at least apparent prosperity, provided a perfect setting
and encouragement for the opulent lifestyle of the pampered and glamorous courtesan, a type of which Cora Pearl and La
Païva were notorious and highly successful examples.
“Grandes Horizontales” is not only about the lives of four courtesans but also about the legends surrounding them, the
images made of them largely through the writings of others, both their contemporaries and subsequent commentators and
historians. I have chosen these particular four women to write about as they were subject more than most to the
image-making of others, and of themselves.
La Païva, born Thérèse Lachmann, is surrounded by a horde of unlikely legends through which she has attained the
status of a fairy-tale character, the evil witch luring young men to part with their wealth by casting a spell of
incomprehensible s^xual magic upon them. The stories that were told about her attest both to her unusual power and to
the prejudices of the storytellers, prejudices of the storytellers, prejudices against women, Jews and
foreigners, all of which Thérèse embodied, along with an infuriating (to the onlooker) ability to make money and a
delight in showing it off.
Apollonie Sabatier, also known as La Présidente, was the subject of two particular image-making exercises, first as
“La Femme piquée par un serpent” (The Woman Bitten by a Snake), a sculpture based on a cast of her body by Auguste
Clésinger, and then as “la très-Chère, la très belle” (the Dearest, the most beautiful) of the poet Charles
Baudelaire’s “Les Fleurs du mal”. Both of these artistic endeavours had a profound effect on Apollonie’s life and on
the way she has been viewed by her own and subsequent generations.
Cora Pearl is the only one of these four women to have written her own account of her life, to take the power of
fabrication completely into her own hands, for Cora’s memoirs present the version of her life which she wants us
to have. Yet she too was subject to the myth-making of others, a myth-making again contaminated by prejudice,
particularly against foreign women who profited from the foibles of Parisian men.
In looking at the lives and legends of Marie Duplessis, Cora Pearl, La Païva and La
Présidente, I attempt to
distinguish each life from the legend, while being aware
that this may not always be possible, that to strip away the legend completely may be to leave little of the life.
The two have become so thoroughly intertwined, so hard to tell apart, that these women truly inhabit a
“demi-monde”, a twilit half-world where the image is frequently taken for
the reality and nothing is quite what it seems.
