Hello again and welcome to another edition of My IBiz Weekly. I hope
everyone has had a restful weekend. Of course for those of us who are
working online, we never seem to get a full day's rest huh.
Ah, remember when you weren't stuck checking your email
every ten minutes?
Remember when the computer was just another appliance in
your house instead of now it seems as if it is your LIFELINE :)
Remember when you would never run to the computer as soon
as someone scrolls a url across the tv?
Ah, the simple life...
Okay back to reality here. Today we are going to watch
Jane CanDo go through the steps it takes to get started online. We are not
talking about software, ebooks, etc. We are talking about telling your
family that you are going to work at home.
Now if you are wondering "Who in the world is Jane CanDO?"
you have to read last Tuesday's issue to find out. Read it here
{LINK 33}
Not as easy as you think....
I also have two great articles today for you that are
right up our alley. Also I have some great responses from last
week's Voice Your Opinion Column. I hope you will contribute your thoughts
as well. Don't forget to read that column along with all the sections of
MIBW.
This month's solo and top sponsor winner is Barbara DelGiudice.
Congratulation Barbara.
All Barbara had to do was click on the link found in each
solo mailing and she was entered into our contest, and win two free ad
spots.
Look out for that information in each and every solo ad
sent out.
In the meantime, don't forget if you would like to order
an ad with MIBW, we have extremely affordable ad rates and every issue
goes out to more than 7,000 readers. Why not advertise your products
with MIBW ? Order your ad

Solo Ads: Only $20.00
Top Sponsor Ads: Only $10.00

P.S. I have also decided instead of sending out an
email after every main edition and the classified edition. I will just
send out one notice on Saturday, called the Weekly Roundup highlighting
what each issue is about and the links to the issues online. That way I
won't have to send out an extra mailing after every issue.
Don't forget, only the Main Tuesday edition and the Friday
Classifieds are in html, the solo ads, plus the Nifty Thrifty edition are
in text.
What difficulties did you face when you started
your business at home?

The main difficulties I found were balancing time between
my home business and my family. Especially my children. They were very
demanding, and rightly so. I was on the computer more and more each day it
seemed. Our relationship was suffering. The other main difficulty was
financial.
Stephany Harper
http://www.sunnydays4ever.com
The biggest difficulty I faced when starting my business
was learning how to deal with the unpleasable customer. Spending valuable
time with one person and bending over backward trying to please takes away
from the people who appreciate your efforts.
Denise Hall
http://www.home-business-on-a-budget.com
Time and money. I work a full-time job outside the home to
support myself and my daughter, but was in need of a second income. I
didn't really have any money to put into my business, so I did
everything for free.
Unfortunately, using only free advertising in ezines and at classified
ad sites takes a lot of time. But I knew in order to succeed, I had to
advertise. So I did what I could in my spare time.
It's been a slow process at times, but my business is steadily
building. Sometimes it gets frustrating because I can't work on here
as much as I'd like to build it faster. But I know with time and
patience I'll eventually be where I want to be.
What time savers helped you handle work and home at
the same time?

I think the best thing that helps me handle work and home
is my mailer script! I can set it up to automatically send out my emails
ahead of time, thereby freeing up more of my time for other things.
Stephany Harper
http://www.sunnydays4ever.com
Making a list of priorities helps me have a more
productive day. I write out my goals the night before. When I turn on the
computer in the morning my list of things to do are right in front of me.
Thank goodness for public television, Sesame Street, Clifford and all the
other cartoons. I get a 4 hour block of time in the morning to work mostly
uninterrupted. After cartoons are over I turn off the computer and devote a
couple of hours to my five year old and household responsibilities.
I read most of my emails when I am sending off an issue of Sunny Days. I
write my replies and save them to send as soon as I'm done with a mailing.
Denise Hall
http://www.home-business-on-a-budget.com
On days when I work my outside job I spend 3-4 hours
working
with my online business. On my days off, I work anywhere from 8-12
hours online. That may seem extreme to some people, but I love what I
do and I'm trying really hard to quit my day job.
Reading/answering e-mails and reading ezines takes up most of my time. But
I do like to read them to learn as much as possible. If I have a really
important project to work on, such as writing an article, I
make that my priority. I try to finish the project before tackling the
e-mails.
How many hours do you spend daily on your business?
What tasks take up the most time?

I usually spend at least 5 hours a day on my business.
What takes up most of my time? DELETING SP@M! LOL Also, debugging scripts
Stephany Harper
http://www.sunnydays4ever.com
I spend approximately 8 hours a day at the computer. Most
of my time is spent preparing issues for my newsletter.

The Life and Times of Jane CanDo
Honey, Guess What, I
figured out the Answer to All Our Problems !!
Now that is what Jane's husband heard as soon as he came
home that day.
"So how do you plan to do that big task?" He asked...
"Simple, I am going to show people how to make money
selling online." said Jane.
"Uh, Honey, you don't know how to do that" said her
husband.
"Oh you just don't understand me huh?" said Jane and then
left in a fit of anger.
Jane figured that by glancing through few magazines and
watching some crazy late night commercials, that she was on her way.
Oh sure I can do this for a couple of hours a day, and
watch the money roll in.
Mistake #1: Not Realizing That
You Have to Crawl Before You Can Walk
You cannot possible watch some 30 minute infomercial or
read an article in a magazine about how someone made millions and expect
to do exactly the same thing they did.
It doesn't work like that because we are ALL different
people with different lifestyles, and very different situations.
What works for me may not work for you.
Now is the time to do some research. Go to the library, do
a search online. Look for the best information that will help you, not
just lure you to buy a product because THEY SAID it will make money.
Don't just assume that the biggest names has the
information that you are looking for. Nine out of Ten times, it is not
helpful information but a load of nothing crammed into one ebook or
report.
Mistake #2: If You Build It, They
Will Come
No save that for the Field of Dreams movie :)
Even if you say, well if I had a babysitter full time then
I can get all my work done.
If I had the money in the bank, then I know I can make a
success of this business.
If I had a staff to handle all the little details, then I
can make a success of everything.
I think that is what a lot of people thought as well but
since we have all seen those Dot Com Bombs a few years ago, it takes more
than a some big wish list.
As I have said before, I could invent the perfect product,
that everyone will love but what if no one ever hears about it.
What if your customer service is so bad, no one would
touch your product?
Well, there goes that theory :)
Before you even head out to the bank and empty your
savings or ask every family member to contribute money to your new found
venture, get a pen and a paper and write down what you want to do.
What makes you happy? Do you have any experience in this
field? Are you willing to do what it takes to gain experience?
Now the big question is, will this make you any money?
Well that is another chapter altogether...
Mistake #3: Forgetting About Good
Old Fashioned Common Sense
Seems like a lot of us lose our minds when we get online.
I think with the amount of information that is available to you, it
boggles the mind and pretty soon everything looks like it's a winner.
There are plenty of opportunities but can you handle it.
Honestly, what if your site requires constant maintenance, can you do it
all?
There are tons of us who never get to fulfill their
dreams. This may be your chance, are you ready? Are you mentally ready?
Well by now Jane has calmed down and also realized
something important.
Never tell someone earth shattering news as soon as
they walk in the door. You are setting yourself up for a lot of
unnecessary
disagreements. Let them get comfortable first then think before you speak.
Hey as a wife of Ten Years, I learned that one out a long
time ago.
Jane also realizes that she needs to head to the library
for some further research. How in the heck can I teach someone to live
like a king when I can barely afford my own rent?
How in the world can I show them the ropes when I don't
know it myself.
Now that hasn't stopped plenty of people online these
days. But there is always a way to go about it.
Stay tuned for that one in the next saga of Jane CanDo.
See how Jane learns:
> It's not what you say, but how you say it.
> Preparing your children for the biggest adjustment.
Realizing Mom is home, but NOT home.....

When you first begin your business, everything is fine and dandy. It's
like bringing home the new baby from the hospital. Everyone visits to see
the new baby. Everyone thinks the baby is cute and wants to hold it.
Everyone "oohs" and "awes."
After a few months though, the newness wears off. Now it's time to get
down to raising this new baby and preparing him or her to be successful
for their role in life.
A new business suffers about the same type of beginning. You talk the
decision over with your family and involve them in hearing your initial
business plans. Everyone gets excited and tells you to "go for it."
Everyone agrees to help out and the whole house is buzzing about with
visions of big bank deposits dancing in their heads. After a few months
though, the newness wears off. Since you probably haven't made any money,
family members may grow tired and discouraged.
They begin degrading your motives for opening the business in the
first place. They may even embarrass you and make you feel like a total
failure without even realizing it.
Eventually, if you stay with the business and exclude the family, they
will begin feeling rejected. A spouse may be upset because you don't
go to bed the same time you used to. He or she may pressure you into
spending more time with them and the children. You love your family and
don't want to hurt them but you don't want to hurt your business either.
You are torn between two decisions, and sometimes this decision is
extremely difficult to make.
What are you supposed to do? It's only common sense, if your spouse gets
ill and you have to take care of him or her, that this situation would
demand more attention than your business. But, most situations are not
this severe. Often times, family pressures only come from the fact that
the family member feels left out and rejected. Naturally, when you are
building your business, your time is occupied in this field - much more
than when you didn't have a business. Your spouse may be used to falling
asleep with you while watching television. You can still do this!
Just take a break and watch television with your spouse until he or she
falls asleep. In turn, he or she should have the understanding that you
will probably be working on your business for a few hours while they are
sleeping. Give a little!
If the children are used to you spending more time with them, try and
involve them in some aspect of your business. Take them to the post office
with you to pick up your mail. Talk with them about school or other things
that interest them while you're both in the car. Ask them to drop the mail
in the mailbox while you are cleaning out your post office box. Even a
small amount of responsibility in your business builds up a respect for
your work and they will give you more space when you need to take time
away from them.
If your children are young - take a nap when they are asleep and work
longer hours after they go to bed at night. If you work a full-time job,
take some lunches by yourself and study your business-related materials.
You'd be amazed how much research and new ideas you can come up with in 1
hour at lunch undisturbed over a peanut-butter sandwich. Save money too!
Carry a mini-cassette recorder or pad of paper with you every place you
go. Write down ideas that come into your mind and review these ideas while
eating supper or watching television. I'm sure you can find time to build
your business - it just takes a little thought. It may not always be the
amount of time you want and need - but you can squeeze some time in
somewhere. Just find out "what" method works the best for you!
There are a lot of excellent books on the market about managing your time
successfully. Find one and read it. Your family, friends and other human
relationships are very, very important to your mental attitude. Don't
alienate them completely. Just find ways you can enjoy the best of both
worlds and everyone will be happy - including you and your business.

How To Become A Virtual Assistant And Cater To The Small Business World-
Free Training
By Anna Mattingly
The more we do our own clerical work independently for our
small business, the more we see how great the need is for
virtual assistants who can cater to the small business community
on the web. We have also noticed at our employment site a
great surge in internet traffic indicating another need for stay
at home mother's and women in general to perform clerical
duties in their homes. And what's really interesting is that men
need this work as well today. Many who pass through our virtual
door simply want to start their own business or to be hired as an
administrative assistant of an existing business. But for years
we struggled with the answer of how to do this successfully.
Many said they tried to do this but just simply could not find
work.
Frustrating as it has been, we see a new frontier emerging.
The Information Highway, as some call it, or the internet has
created a home for new home business owner's. Over the
past 3-5 years many entrepreneurs have been developing and
establishing their own small businesses just as we did. We
see many store fronts that are bringing in daily income for
their owners which in turn is creating more and more
administrative work and a new opportunity for administrative
assistant's. Good news for the struggling stay at home
secretary. Although it will take a bit of ingenuity and hard
work to get started it's no longer impossible for women to
stay home and perform the same office and administrative
duties they used to perform traditionally in the office.
Since small business is still in it's infancy via the internet, a
new VA has the added job of enlightening small business
owners of their need for strong administrative support.
We've taken the liberty here of incorporating this process
into the few simple steps needed to get started.........
Obviously you have a connection to the internet if you are
reading this. If you have your small home office set up and
you have experience and you're ready to work at home
here's all you will need to do.
1. Decide which services you will provide
Visit:
http://www.abcsvcs.com/service.htm
2. Decide what rates you will charge.
Visit
http://www.abcsvcs.com/rates.htm
3. Find a nice home on the web for your new business. There are
plenty of nice places to open a "VR" business. A simple one page
website is more than sufficient.
------Visit: http://www.hypermart.net
for one example of a free virtual community that will assist you
with just about any need you have.
4. Set your business up. Basically you would just be advertising
yourself to the small business community on the web with your
website.
------Tell the small business owners why they need you. You
might want to mention how EXTREMELY reasonable your rates
are.
------Tell them who you are. (IE-I'm the answer to your problem:)
One paragraph on your website alerting the business person to
all he needs to do while running an cyber business and how you
can solve that problem. An example of this is advertising,
website maintenance, newsletter pre-preparation, etc
------Elaborate on ALL the skills you have. (entrepreneurs never
sleep and are really desperate for someone like you) For example:
Office support, correspondence, internet research, typing or
writing their newsletter, database maintenance of customers and
leads, web design, sales literature design, etc.
------Give them your background and education. (Mention too
how much energy you have and how fast you type and advertise
also.)
------Provide a way for them to contact you. This is as simple as
ending your webpage advertisement with your name, an email
link, your address and your telephone number.
5. Advertise yourself in every way imaginable on the internet.
There are actual listings for virtual assistants where you can
add your business and get support such as:
http://www.abcsvcs.com/typists.htm
http://www.staffcentrix.com/
http://www.assistu.com/
You can buy materials from these sites to help you to develop
your business and these places may even help you with
setting up a website and advertising. Do a search at alta vista
search engine to find more databases like these.
When you are advertising on your own we suggest targeting
the places small business people visit. Mainly these are
comprised of small business forums, discussion lists and
newsgroups. Take part in the discussions and include a
signature similar to the one we added at the end of this article
(Never blatantly advertise in newsgroups, forums or a
discussion list). Here are the places you can look for "marketing
discussions":
for discussion lists:
http://list-universe.com/
for newsgroups: http://www.dejanews.com
for forums:
http://www.entrepreneur-web.com/index_1.shtml
When your business is developed you can research
press releases and tell the world how you are helping
the small businessman via the internet.
This will help you a great deal with that
and supplement all the information above as well:
http://www.techweb.com/smallbiz
Why wait another day, the opportunity has presented itself. It's a
wide open arena and a great need. You could be one of the first to
create this new income generating line of work on the internet and
be up and running in no time. Many large staffing services may
not even realize this door of opportunity exists, get in now. As
business owners realize you are available more and more will come
to you for help. You could be creating a new family owned
business at home beginning right now. There is even plenty of
opportunity for an online "VA temporary agency" or two which
will cater to the online small business world. Food for thought.
Seize the moment!
